MLPlus system creates perfect coating conditions

New product production requires Munters support

Capsuling cranberry powder requires a relative humidity below 30%. Powder changes consistency and becomes stickly and flowing with higher humidity, which makes capsuling impossible.

For quite some years a Munters ML420 dehumidifier had provided perfect climate conditions for this production process, keeping powder dry in all ambient air conditions.

But Jemo-pharm A/S began producing garlic pills and the coating process needed a dry climate temperature of 20°C with a relative humidity below 20% RH.

The Munters solution

To create these conditions with conventional cooling would be impossible, so Munters was asked to help, and a ML690 Plus was designed to meet these requirements.

The MLPlus has an integrated pre and post-cooler. The pre-cooled air (+15°C saturated) is lead through the desiccant rotor (wheel) and is dehumidified down to a water content of 2.5 g/kg. Then the air is post-cooled from +45°C to +18°C before it´s lead to the coating process.

The dry air supply (17% RH) to the coater cuts coating process time by up to 2/3, which secures much higher production capacity and constant coating conditions.

The smaller footprint of the MLPlus compared to separate units for cooling and dehumidifying, was one of the main reasons Jemo-pharm A/S chose the MLPlus solution.

The unit had to be installed outside next to the production facility in a shed with limited space.
