Dehumidification in ice rinks means an end to foggy conditions during matches, condensation and corrosion on building structures, uncomfortable indoor climate for skaters and spectators and improved quality of ice.

Traditional air-handling of ice rinks do not deal efficiently with the high moisture load in the arena. The problems related to high humidity are plentiful and dealing with the problems is an expensive experience. The excess moisture condenses both on the surface of the ice but also on the roof, causing dripping on the audience and onto the ice, not to mention that the condensation on the building structure leads to corrosion, mold and fungus. Ice build-ups on the ice surface forms a risk for skaters and as the ice surface softens, e.g. speed skaters will experience poor performance. During events with audience the problems increases as the humidity rises further and fog can appear over the ice rink, disturbing the visibility.

 

Munters dehumidification will secure that the dewpoint of the air in the ice rink will be kept low and as close to the ice surface temperature as possible. The desiccant wheel of the dehumidifier will then act as a sponge, soaking up the moisture and keeping the humidity in the arena at a level where condensation is dramatically reduced.
