The increasing importance of wind turbines for the generation of sustainable power has resulted in the rapid development of land-based and offshore area wind farms.
The aggressive environment in which these turbines are often sited requires special protection of the nacelle machinery and tower.
Key areas of risk include water ingress through air intakes and corrosion caused by condensation. Munters is a leading supplier to many of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers and is able to overcome both of these potentially damaging threats with a wide range of Mist Eliminators and Dehumidifiers.
Munters mist eliminators are available in various customised settings that can be adapted to your specific demands. Depending on the system requirements, mist eliminator units can separate rain, hail, snow and solid airborne particles out of the incoming supply of cooling air.
In cold climates, when the temperature is close to or below 0°C, the danger of icing is ever-present. Munters mist eliminators can be supplied with an integrated heating device (DFH), specifically developed for harsh environments, that will keep the air intake ice-free all year long. The high costs for maintenance and a latent risk of accidents associated with ice build-up, can be effectively eliminated.
Advantages with Munters air separation system:
Corrosion caused by condensation can be extremely damaging, inside both the tower and nacelle. Munters dehumidifiers are used to maintain relative humidity (RH), at a level that ensures that corrosion will not occur. A desiccant rotor is used to remove moisture from the air, without the expense of operating compressor-based chiller equipment to condense out the moisture on a cold coil. Munters has the widest range of desiccant dehumidifiers currently available on the market, with sizes and configurations to suit all types of wind turbines.
