Munters Air Treatment Systems Provide Ventilation Solutions For a Wide Range of Educational Facilities

Good indoor air quality (IAQ) is important to learning and is essential for a productive learning environment, but studies have found that over 40% of the nation’s schools report deficiencies in IAQ. The air quality is deteriorated by pollutants including dust, pollen, mold, mildew and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) that come from everywhere - science laboratories, carpet, furniture, occupants, cleaning solutions, etc. 

Munters wide range of air treatment equipment provides ventilation solutions for every room of the school and can potentially help a school earn LEED credits and qualify for utility rebates.  The recommended school design utilizes a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) to not only remove the moisture from the outside air, but to also deliver the air to the space dry enough to absorb internal moisture loads, such as people, infiltration, and other sources.  This allows the space HVAC system to be smaller, only needing to treat the sensible load of the space.

Inadequate ventilation for dilution of these pollutants or ventilating without controlling the humidity levels in the fresh air is very often the reason indoor air quality is so poor.  Unwanted moisture affects the entire school building from the actual structure to its occupants and their health.  Insufficient humidity control results in moldy books, damaged carpet and warped flooring.  Poor IAQ leads to headaches, fatigue, asthma (and other respiratory-related problems), an inability to concentrate, and increased absenteeism among students and faculty.
