Munters partners with EngineerGirl to empower women in engineering

giu 23, 2023

Munters has teamed up with EngineerGirl, a US program dedicated to promoting engineering among girls and women. The partnership is a crucial step in our ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse workforce and encouraging more women to pursue careers in engineering.

EngineerGirl, a division of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE), focuses on inspiring and supporting middle and high school girls who aspire to excel in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

The program offers a wide range of opportunities for volunteer engineers who are passionate about shaping the future and wish to contribute to the mission of empowering girls in technology-related disciplines. Earlier this year, EngineerGirl was awarded the 2023 National Science Board’s Science and Society Award for their extraordinary efforts to increase participation and diversity in the science and engineering fields.

One of the advantages of the EngineerGirl program is that it provides virtual volunteer opportunities, allowing engineers from around the world to participate and support its initiatives. This global reach is instrumental in creating a broad network of mentors who can guide and inspire girls from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that engineering remains accessible and inclusive.

Judy Castaño, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Munters, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating: "Women engineers are significantly underrepresented in our industry, and we have been facing challenges in finding qualified women engineers. It is crucial for us to take proactive measures and partner with organizations like EngineerGirl to strengthen our recruiting pipeline and attract more skilled women to join us in Operations, Manufacturing, and Service roles."

The announcement of this partnership coincides with the celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, an annual event championed by the Women's Engineering Society and supported by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This special day aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of women in engineering and encourages young women to pursue careers in this dynamic field.

"We consider this collaboration with EngineerGirl as just the beginning of a series of partnerships," says Castaño. "We will actively seek out similar alliances across the globe to ensure that we cover the regions and countries where we operate. It is crucial that we support the communities we are part of and address global social challenges to make a positive difference in our society."
