The Swedish National Property Board manages 1.6 million m² government buildings and property, including the Swedish seat of the government "rose bath". His job is to manage the building economically, so that the national cultural heritage is preserved for the public and cultural assets are protected.
The Swedish National Property Board operates its own cooling systems for the "rose bath" building. Since the rise of the internal heat load due to the increased use of computers, the existing cooling system had reached its capacity limit. At the advice of Munters is an innovative alternative to conventional cooling with refrigerant, through the use of existing waste heat with a Munters DesiCool ™ system revealed.
Munters alternative for cooling
The DesiCool ™ system works and cools in three stages. First, the external air is dried in a desiccant wheel using waste heat. This dry air is then cooled in a downstream heat recovery rotor, resulting in a dry, cool air condition. The air is finally after-cooled in an evaporative cooler to the desired state. The more waste heat is used, the deeper the fresh air can be cooled. During the winter the DesiCool ™ system uses both rotors as series-connected heat exchanger. If both rotors operated at maximum power, the DesiCool ™ system achieved a thermal efficiency of 90%. Thanks to the high efficiency can reheating in the winter time mostly omitted. For the Swedish National Property Board, this means that the reheating of the air that is normally required during the long winter, is not necessary.
