Munters retrofit at Inovis Coat reduces energy costs by 38%
This leading company in the field of high-tech coatings reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 240 tonnes thanks to Munters PowerPurge energy optimization solutions
The German company InovisCoat GmbH works with high-tech functional coatings in the range of photographic products. At its production plant in Monheim near the Rhine they provide their clients with coating for modern technical products. The high quality production of various single and multi-products is technically a self-evident task for InovisCoat.
The ability to apply up to nine different functional layers simultaneously with extremely high precision (multi-layer coating), depends on strictly controlled air-conditioning, which is realized by the Munters dehumidification systems. Munters installed at InovisCoat four large dehumidification systems - a dehumidifier type MDS1000 and 3 rotor quantum type MC25000. These systems with the Munters rotor provide each 35.000m³ / h with a relative humidity of less than 2% RH and thereby ensure optimal conditions for the technically highly qualified coating method.
For several years, InovisCoat used to work closely with the Munters customer service and its special focus on energy optimization. So InovisCoat suggested the Munters customer service to reduce power consumption.
To take advantage of the low gas prices, all existing Munters dehumidifier systems were converted from steam to gas-regeneration. In addition, all Munters dehumidifiers are equipped with the patented Munters PowerPurge- system, an internal energy recovery sector.
The innovative PowerPurge perform an additional partial flow of air through the regeneration sector of the rotor. This air flow is used for pre-heating of regeneration air, and reduces the need for external energy regeneration. By installing the PowerPurge , InovisCoat achieved energy savings of 150 kW / h per dehumidification system and thus a total saving of 38%.

Dr. Jörg Siegel of the InovisCoat GmbH confirmed the results of the calculated Munters savings. He is very pleased with the energy savings and the skills from the Munters staff in the field of energy-efficient air treatment.
The heart of a dehumidifier is the rotor between the two primary airstreams, process and regeneration air turns. The process air is removed from the humidity as they flow through the rotor. The dehumidified air is then fed to a production process or a room. Flows through the regeneration sector heated air and the rotor absorbs moisture again. Most of the time actually spent in the dehumidification energy is needed to heat the regeneration air stream.
PowerPurge saves energy in two ways. First, it works as a system for recovering energy by capturing waste heat from the hottest part of the sorption and she used to support recovery. This reduces the energy required for the regeneration, while at the same time the exit temperature of the process air is reduced, resulting in lower energy costs for the after-cooling. Secondly, one can already reduce investment costs. When furnishing a new Luftentfeuchtungssystems with the PowerPurge the rotor size can be chosen to be smaller, without its dehumidifying capacity is reduced.
More Purge Options
The above-mentioned PowerPurge is designed for retrofit and new installation for our large dehumidification. Various Purge versions are available for a variety of dehumidifiers series and applications. All variants secure savings on the regeneration side - some others use a separate air recirculation on the process air inlet side of the cooling of the rotor. Thus an improvement in the dehumidifying capacity is reached and the drying air temperature is lowered at Rotorauslass. All plants of the Munters ML-series are configured by default with a purge sector. Our great standard equipment as well as our system solutions offer the Purge sectors as an option for even greater energy efficiency. Besides PowerPurge upgrade is an upgrade to a cheaper energy source, such as Gas, a further energy saving way.
