Indirect evaporative cooling

Indirect evaporative cooling

When your data center is in a location where ambient pollution and varying outdoor humidity can cause problems, or if the data center needs to be controlled to a tighter operating range of temperature and humidity, then indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) is an ideal solution. This method can leverage the lower ambient wet bulb during peak cooling months, reducing initial costs as well as ongoing operating expenses.

The benefits

Indirect evaporative cooling has many benefits, including:

  • The most energy efficient cooling system available, with little or no mechanical cooling required
  • Ability to downsize connected electrical due to reduced peak mechanical cooling requirements
  • Indoor humidity remains steady since it is not affected by outdoor humidity or evaporative economizer process
  • Maintain optimal indoor air quality with minimized risk of external pollution and contaminants entering the data center
  • Operate dry during cool ambient conditions, reducing annual water consumption and eliminating freeze concerns
