Munters' Moisture Removal Efficiency (MRE) Rating on DOAS Products

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has revised Standard 90.1 to now require minimum rating for Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) Moisture Removal Efficiency (MRE) of 4.0.

What is MRE?

MRE is a measure of the energy efficiency of any dehumidification process. MRE is the water vapor removed from air at a defined inlet air temperature and humidity, divided by the total energy consumed by dehumidification equipment such as the Munters DryCool Standard (HCU). MRE can be expressed in several different ways. An application MRE can be developed for a single unit and operating point or the unit performance at four different conditions can be combined per the formulas in Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) 920 to define a product's MRE.

What is the MRE rating of Munters DryCool units?

After testing by the Selma Engineering team, we have found that a Munters DryCool ERV can achieve an MRE as high as 10.8 during peak season which exceeds the minimum requirement by two times. Munters DryCool Technology removes more moisture with less energy than any other DOAS by combining Munters advanced desiccant dehumidification technology 


What does this mean for our customers?

When customers purchase a DryCool ERV at 10.8 MRE rating versus the competition at lower rating, they can achieve a faster payback on the equipment do to its high efficiency. Customers will get a quicker payback in their investment of Munters premium DOAS.
