60 years of innovation and efficient food production
Swedish innovation and engineering excellence were the building blocks of today's global group, of which a part is dedicated to more efficient and safe food production.
Creating the perfect climate for customers is a vision that has been fostered at Munters from its inception to present day. When Carl Munters founded his company in 1955, he brought with him years of experience working on innovative solutions for how air can be best cooled, dehumidified and optimised for people and industry. The company he formed has now grown into a global corporation with 2600 employees in over 30 countries. It is quite vertiginous to think about the number of patent applications made by Carl Munters, they amount to 1,000 of his own inventions!
Today, Munters is a global leader in energy-efficient solutions for optimising the air. The technology is often key to the customers and can also be part of the solution to many of the biggest challenges facing society. One example is the need to reduce the world's energy consumption in the future to be able to stop global warming. Energy-efficient solutions for proper cooling and moisture are an important part of this.
According to an FAO report* the world’s population in 2050 will reach 9.1 billion, 34 percent higher than today. This population growth will mainly take place in developing countries, materialize itself in expanding urban areas and income levels will be many multiples of what they are now. In order to satisfy these growing and changing demands, food production (net of food used for biofuels) must increase by 70 percent. Needless to say, this challenge requires us to make food production both more efficient and safe, while keeping the environmental impact and use of resources as low as possible. In Munters we see ourselves as an important contributor to this necessity, it is reflected in everything we have strived for during these 60 years starting from the CELdek® pad and Euroemme® fans up to today's intensive farmproductions often fully enclosed and intelligently controlled by a computer that coordinates all functions to maximize bottom line results for the grower. A contemporary and very important invention is Munters Air Cleaner that allows for a purification of ammonia emissions from stables for livestock production by up to 80% on average. Ammonia is a natural by-product of livestock farming and as a result of stricter environmental legislation, many farmers in Europe face emission limits for ammonia - especially when they want to expand their production.
Munters has engineered the latest advancement in motor technology by developing this unique motor drive system which we call Munters Drive. The motor enables reduction of energy costs of up to 40%, helping to reduce carbon foot print, save money and usher in a “greener” approach to agricultural and horticultural ventilation.
This year, Munters celebrates its 60th anniversary and is one of the most well-established Swedish industrial companies. The head office is still in Sweden (in Kista), while the company as a whole has become increasingly global over the years and now has operations located throughout the world. Munters is found in more than 30 countries, has SEK 4 billion in turnover and is owned by Nordic Capital Fund VII.
