Munters has committed since 2018 to report in accordance with the ten principles of the UN Global Compact’s on human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption.
The Code of Conduct and the special Code of Conduct for suppliers are based on these ten principles and describe Munters’ view on issues such as the environment, social responsibility, business ethics and human rights. Compliance with these policies is monitored each year and reported to the Board of Directors. In addition to the Global Compact, Munters has chosen to embrace the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and reported to it in 2019.
In 2019, we did not conduct the same employee survey that had been done in previous years, although at the end of the year an employee and brand survey was conducted. It showed that most employees are proud to work at Munters and felt that it is a good company to work for and has a culture they see as positive. In 2020, Munters will again conduct an employee survey similar to the ones in 2017 and 2018.
Based on the priority sustainability areas and the opportunities to make a difference, Munters has chosen to focus on nine of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, see next page. They are also linked to Munters’ strategic goals.
Munters delivers products and services – including climate equipment for animal farming, greenhouses and grocery stores – to many companies that are involved in the manufacture and distribution of food. In these industries, perfect climate results, for example, in an increase in productivity, better animal welfare and less food waste in shops.
The FoodTech business area recently launched a service called Echo/Sonar, in which IoT technology is used to link poultry farms to food producers’ data systems, thereby ensuring full control throughout the entire delivery chain. The benefit is increased efficiency in production and more food for the world’s growing population.

Indicator 7.2 aims at increasing the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, and indicator 7.3 deals with improving energy efficiency. Munters strives to be a world leader in supplying energy-efficient solutions for air treatment, and energy efficiency is something we put a great deal of focus on, both in product development and in our own operations.
Cooling data centers is an energy-intensive process, and cooling represents 40 percent of the total energy consumption in a data center. Munters’ evaporative cooling technology used in its Oasis product line is an extremely energy-efficient cooling method. In addition, Munters offers solutions for using waste heat from data centers in district heating networks.
We have begun measuring electricity from renewable sources in our production plants, and have the goal of working actively to increase its share over the next few years.
Indicator 12.3 concerns reducing food waste along the entire food production and supply chain. Munters offers a number of products and services to companies along the entire food and supply chain, and a proper climate is extremely important for improving productivity and reducing food waste. An additional indicator relevant for Munters is 12.5, which concerns effective waste management aimed at reducing, reusing, and recycling waste. As part of our environmental policy, we are working actively on reducing and handling waste in all production plants.
One of the indicators is building and upgrading education facilities so that they are suitable for learning. Munters’ AirTech business area offers climate equipment specifically for school environments.
Indicator 5.5 aims at ensuring women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life. Munters works actively on issues concerning equality and has set up tangible goals for more women in the company – both in general and as regards the number of women leaders.
One area of focus in our environmental policy is reducing water use in our production; this is continual work that is ongoing in our production plants. Since some of our customers are located in areas where water is in short supply, the demand is for technology that requires little or no water for cooling. We are carrying out various development projects to meet these customers’ needs.
Indicator 8.5 relates to full employment with decent work, and equal pay for work of equal value. Munters is located in many places around the world, and our operations have grown rapidly over the last few years. This has resulted in us being able to employ more people. At the end of 2017, we had 3,500 permanent employees, which can be compared with 2,600 permanent employees at the end of 2014. We are also working actively on conducting wage and salary surveys for the purpose of ensuring that we offer equal pay for work of equal value.
Indicator 9.5 deals with upgrading the technological capabilities of industrial sectors by encouraging innovation and increasing the number of people working in research and development. The number of employees at Munters has increased by 35 percent since 2014. Over the same period, the number of employees in research and development increased by 50 percent.

Indicator 16.5 aims at reducing all forms of corruption and bribery. At Munters, we have a clear policy against all types of bribes and corruption, and we place the same stringent demands on our suppliers and distributors.
