Out of this World with Munters Oasis cooling

Typically European Space Agency (ESA) shaker tables are used to replicate the take-off vibrations of a satellite-lifting rocket. One of the major risks faced by a satellite launch stems is from the high level of vibration during launch.

The ESA shaker table (a.k.a. “Hydra”) is features in this article testing a Oasis® 8-ton DCIE unit, undergoing a simulated earthquake – while blasting a chilly wave of air towards the engineer observing the test.

“Some data center customersrequire us to satisfy very stringent seismic testing requirements," says Craig MacFadyen of Munters. "We need to show the cooling system maintains its functionality during different grades of earthquakes."

The Oasis Indirect Evaporative Cooling unit was put through and successfully cleared 5 stages of the ESA testing. R2, R4, R6, R8 & R10.

“This is a great test to witness a simulated quake on our equipment, say Chris Leach of Munters.

The video below is footage of the shaker test while enduring a simulated 8 magnitude great earthquake. To give perspective, an earthquake at this magnitude, can destroy communities near the epicenter. Watch the video of the test below, courtesy of the ESA.

Bringing high quality products to market is very important to the Munters team and is key to establishing trusted relationships with our customer base. We not only want to meet expectations, we want to exceed them.
