Evaporative Cooler for Siemens, Phillipines
Background
In July 2006, the Precooler Division won a contract for six large three-sided evaporative coolersystems for a retrofit project in the Phillipines. The units were installed in one of the largest power plants in the Phillipines, Santa Rita and San Lorenzo on V94.2A machines.
PreCooler Solution
The scope of work comprised the complete systems on an ex-works basis, including Celdek and the DH 2100 mist eliminators plus site supervision for the first two units. Due to the tight time schedule (the first performance test of the end customer with the national elecricity company was scheduled for September 2006, by then the first two units had to be in operation), the first two units were out in slightly more than 10 weeks after contract award due to very efficient and fast project engineering working together in tight relations with production and our subsuppliers.
Benefits
The cooling systems cool the air even in the very humid environment of the Phillipines by up to 8°C, thus increasing the output of the machines by approximately 8MW or 5% of the maximum output.
The project demonstrates how effective evaporative cooling can be even under extremely humid conditions and enables the end-customer First Gas Power Corporation a substantial additional income, leading to a pay-back time much less than one year.
